Haiyan "Hai" Ramirez Batlle hails from Puerto Rico and completed his undergraduate studies in Biology and Philosophy at the University of Puerto Rico in Mayagüez. While attending medical school at Brown University, he was involved in implementing the Affordable Care Act in Rhode Island, focusing on outreach and enrollment in Spanish-speaking communities. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, where he deepened his commitment to health equity and primary care.
From 2019 to 2023, Hai served as a primary care physician at San Quentin State Prison during the COVID-19 pandemic, an experience that solidified his dedication to caring for structurally vulnerable populations. In 2023, he joined the Tuberculosis Prevention and Control Program at the San Francisco Department of Public Health, where he operates at the intersection of public health and clinical care. In 2024, after becoming board-certified in addiction medicine, he began seeing patients at Bridge Clinic and is particularly enthusiastic about continuing to provide trauma-informed, language-concordant care to Spanish-speaking individuals and others affected by substance use.
