Message from our Chief

The UCSF Division of General Internal Medicine at ZSFG is committed to improving the health of vulnerable and underserved populations by supporting innovation in patient-centered care, medical education, scientific discovery, and public policy.  We accomplish this by:

  • Patient Care: Providing high quality patient-centered primary care, mindful of cultural,Dr. Schwarz, Division Chief linguistic, and social determinants of health. R. Fine People’s Clinic (RFPC) annually cares for an  estimated 9,000 people with a wide-range of clinical needs.
  • Education: Training future leaders in primary care and population health using innovative educational methods to support the ZSFG Primary Care Internal Medicine Residency Training Program, the Primary Care Research Fellowship, and multiple UCSF School of Medicine programs.
  • Research: Leading scientific discovery to advance population health, medical education, and health equity, with an annual research portfolio of over $10 million.
  • Public Policy and Advocacy: Serving as trusted community partners and influential voices in shaping public policy to reduce stigma and promote health for all.
