Shaping National Policy: Informing Diabetes Prevention and Intervention with a Health Equity Lens
Dr. Dean Schillinger, Professor of Medicine with the Division of General Internal Medicine at ZSFG, was one of 23 members that served on the National Clinical Care Commission between 2018-2021. The commission was tasked to study the issue of diabetes in the U.S. and prepare policy recommendations to mitigate the toll on the population and healthcare system. The NCCC's final recommendation considers a novel framework with respect to chronic disease - an "All-of-Government" approach to to involve social determinants of health and a health equity in its solution.
